The Durham Professional Firefighters Association became chartered as Local # 2253 of the International Association of Firefighters on July 19, 1973. It represents and serves as the exclusive bargaining unit for the Firefighters, Fire Inspector and Paramedics of the Durham Fire Department who proudly serve Durham and the University of New Hampshire. The DPFFA is affiliated with the Professional Firefighters of New Hampshire, and is our conduit for local and state legislative processes. The Association and its affiliates support and petition for a safe working environment, good wages and benefits, and fair and equitable working conditions. On the job, our members are dedicated professionals, providing the finest quality emergency services of fire suppression, advanced emergency medical care, water rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, technical rescue and extrication. We also provide non-emergency services that include Fire Prevention property inspections, CPR instruction, and child car seat evaluations. Active in the Durham and UNH community, Durham Professional Firefighters frequently donate off-time for local and national charities and civic organizations. The Firefighters Toy Bank, collects toys for children during the holiday season, MDA Boot Drives collect donations for “Jerry’s Kids” and the ever popular obstacle course and gear station race keep the kids entertained at Durham Day each year. Public education, UNH Greek Fire Academy, various Oyster River Co-Op School District events and many other events and fundraising efforts keep the Durham Professional Firefighters busy year-round. If you would like more information about our Association or the events we assist and sponsor, please contact us.
