Firefighter entrance exams are mandated by the NH Fire Commision for full time fire departments and is a two part testing process: A written test, and a CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test). The written exam is held at the NH Fire Academy in Concord. The physical portion or CPAT, the nationally recognized testing format for firefighter entrance examination, is typically held in Manchester for candidates seeking employment in NH. The written exam requires no prior knowledge of firefighting, however, candidates are strongly urged to train for the CPAT, a timed, highly demanding physical course which involves simulated firefighter tasks. You can read NH Fire Academy's page on entrace testing and find the CPAT orientation guide and preperation guide here. You can also watch the CPAT demonstration video by clicking this link.
