14 Feb 10 A brush fire called in by a Falls Way resident at 1332 hrs on Feb 13th, alerted Durham Fire Fighters to the area of the Big Diamond Bridge access road, where they found a fast moving grass fire. On arrival size up estimated the area involved was approximalty 2 acres in size, mostly in a grassy field. A second alarm card was requested, bringing Dover, Newington, Barrington, Lee, Madbury and Newmarket to the scene. Portsmouth and Newfields provided coverage. After the incident was placed under control, Fire Chief Corey Landry estimated 10 acres had been affected. Because the region is still in winter season, the fire did not burn deep and was contained in short order despite the lack of snow cover. See Fosters article here and Seacoast Online article here.
