Early Morning Run - One Rescued from Water on Coe Drive

16 Sept 2009 - DFD Press Release On September 11, 2009, at 0329 hours, the Durham Fire Department responded to a reported water rescue on Coe Drive. A neighborhood resident exiting their home heard screams for help coming from a wooded area nearby and called 911. Durham PD had established voice contact with the victom from the road. Upon furhter investigation by DFD personnel, it was determined that a subject had become lost and disoriented and was stuck in a swamp along the Beard's Creek waterway approximately 100 yards from the roadway. Fire department personnel donned water rescue/exposure suites and, equipped with search and rescue ropes, climbed down the embankment and made their way on foot into 8' high marsh grass to the victim. McGregor Memorial EMS units were requested to the scene. The victim was found conscious and alert, waist deep in the swamp and care was transferred to MMEMS personnel. She was treansported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital.
